Okkulth Records

Okkulth Records is a 100% non-profit net label that releases compelling ambient, drone and noise works with a profound dark and possibly occult theme. We offer free downloads of these, including artwork. But we do things a little different: the artwork is designed for a cassette. So we encourage you to actually dub the music onto a delightful old-fashioned tape! You will find the experience much more engrossing. And the artwork fits perfectly. We even take care of releasing music that will fit a C60 or C90 tape nicely. Hope you enjoy! We are always looking for artists that fit above bill and that want to release their work through us. Take note: only previously unreleased material will be considered! Or: if you've released something very very limited which has sold out, we can take care of it (with some added material usually). Interested? Send us a message!

On December the 21st we posted an advertisement on our myspace site, calling for artists to submit a track for this Christmas release. This is what it said: “Hohoho! Christmas is coming. And don't we hate it. Well, we at Okkulth do. So we want to release a compilation called 'Darkmass 2008'. Hopefully it will be an anual thing. Rules: only dark ambient and/or drone, composed especially for this comp, deadline: Dec.24. So you have to express your hate for Christmas in a subdued manner. And you...

Halfway June 2008, one of the best noise artists from the Netherlands disappeared without a trace: Stirner. To this day, we have no idea what happened to him. Norss contacted us about this. It had been playing on his mind for quite some time and he came up with the idea of honouring Tony’s work in the form of remixes. Neither an obituary, nor a nocturne, but a celebration of Stirner’s work. Hoping that he will hear this at some point. Because Norss and Okkulth Records are positive that...

Cleaving Unto Silence was originally released as a very limited 3 inch CDR on Flat Affect’s own SP label. It’s been sold-out for a while now, but here’s your chance to grab this intriguing piece for naught. And there’s an added bonus: a suitably dark remix by Norss. Here’s what Flat Affect said about the original release as well as the remix: the audio in this album was recorded, and meant to be played, alone and in the dark of night. Nothing exists in the darkness but the mind and...

Since FM3 was kind enough to offer the loops from their Buddha Machine 1.0 for free and on a Creative Commons license, Mystified and Zieltogend endeavored to create pieces of music using only these sounds. Unlike the original Buddha Machine, more than one loop is heard at once in these pieces, giving them perhaps a little bit of an unfair advantage. We hope you enjoy the music. “Sounds of the Buddha Machine 1.0”

Oh what joy! Somewhat by chance, Okkulth stumbled on this new Mystified material. Well, in fact, Thomas kindly offered it to us. No surprise there wasn’t much hesitation from our side, especially after hearing the innate beauty of ‘Underpass’ with its desolate droning sounds. A longform masterpiece! What else do you get, apart from another soundscape number? Possibly the first beats ever heard on Okkulth! Thomas says: ‘Chatterbones’ is all about the bare basics of music. One longform...

Anopsia is the want or lack of sight, blindness. This track was originally written for an art exhibit about darkness in October of 2006. Played from speakers into the night air, this track is meant to accent pre-existing silence. Played through headphones, this track is meant to conceptualize the ongoing visual emptiness that one must experience in blindness. As anything beyond a concept piece, one might have a difficult time enjoying this track. Flat Affect extends his appreciation and...

Our good friend Shaun has come up with something special here! And we are fortunate to present you the first and the final part... This series is inspired by Dante Alighieri's masterpiece Inferno. It’s is a story in which the protagonist, Dante, is able to travel through the depths of hell to observe the punishment received by all those who fail to accept the word of god. This is the first and the last in a series of alternative mixes of the same song. Circles 2-8 will be released on various...

It was Thomas Park who suggested us to start a net label. After some consideration (well, hardly any), we decided to go through with it! So it was only fitting that Mystified would provide the first release on Okkulth. And fortunately, there was no hesitation! So we present you a truly enthralling collection of tracks here! ”Spinning Decline is an eclectic mix of pieces, mostly drone in nature. Moods tend to be dark and melancholy here. Several pieces closely mimic the sound of old vinyl...

Being a huge Mystified fan, Okkulth requested Thomas to record a longform piece in the vein of Constant or Alien Doppler. What he came up with beggars all belief! A very quiet ambient piece using the sounds of the earth, which were used in his masterful Constant 16 piece as well. To quote the man himself: “Very lo-fi, and kinda mono too. Which is weird for me.” You be the judge! ”MonoDecay is a longform excercise in keyboard sounds. The original keyboard track was modified in different...

With pride, Okkulth announces its second Turmoil release! Tom is a great friend of ours and here, he honours the true spirit of this label. If there is such a thing as a signature Okkulth release, this might be it! In his own words: ‘Planes Of Oblivion’ is a minimalist journey in to the secret rites of the occult brotherhood. The God of the Theologians is simply an imaginary power... Our chief aim is to deliver humanity of this nightmare, to teach man virtue for its own sake, and to walk in...

This is something really special indeed! We’re actually not at law to disclose any information about the artist (at his request); the only thing that can be made public is that these tracks were recorded in 2006 by one and the same person. It was he who described these recordings as primitive, but we at Okkulth disagree: these are absolutely beautiful soundscapes indeed! The mood is different, thus justifying this as a split release, rather than a retrospective or what have you....

This is the first and hopefully not the last Turmoil release on Okkulth. Tom has created this track especially for us, thereby successfully capturing the vein of the label. This is his story. In 1888, three Qabalists, Freemasons, and Rosicrucians founded the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, to carry out the work that was abandoned by the Theosophical Society. These founders of the Golden Dawn intended that the Order should serve as the guardian of the Western Esoteric Tradition - keeping its...

Amazed we were by the Hekte Zaren / Norss split on Norss Platen called Hellemond! What were we hearing here? The new Diamanda Galas?! That’s as close a description we could come up with. AmortE is the alter ego of Hekte Zaren and this is her first release on Okkulth Records. The second one is coming soon and something tells us, there will be a third, maybe a fourth, hell, why not a fifth?! AmortE is a hellish poet, the tongue of evil, death’s singer. We have been long-time fans of Wolfsduister aka. Erghal and his ritualistic ambient work. So obviously, an Okkulth release just had to happen. And as you can see, this is just the first part! Apart from composing dark rituals, Erghal is also providing vocals for two excellent Dutch black metal bands: Eindig and Nachtvorst. The latter released a demo on Svartgalgh and Wolfsvuur (his own label) simultaneously and Eindig just got a great CD out on Galgenstrang, after making name for themselves...

Kristus Kut is a harsh trance project from the lowlands. The mad voodoo priest LSB is responsible for the deep and hypnotizing soundscapes. Presented here are probably two of his darkest tracks ever, composed especially for Okkulth Records. This release brings you two long tracks made during an emotional ritual cleansing. Emotions were drained from LSB's soul and thus created these two haunting tracks. The first caught the rememberance of fine times that have been and never come back. The...

Psychedelic drone from Mexico: here is (((o)))! The name is something of a give-away: expect raw Sunn O))) type drone sounds. Not as repetetive perhaps, but definitely as heavy! Complete with spooky piano-tinged intro and outro, this will send your speakers flying for the hills and cover your soul in dank darkness. This release was previously available from the (((o))) myspace, but has now found its way to Okkulth. With good reason we like to think! “Psicodelic drone experimental”

Wolfsduister is unstoppable! And Erghal proves he can do more than his usual ritualistic ambient exercises-in-supremo, cause here he has taken a great stab at creating a dark noise track. The result is quite amazing! Not only because it’s not your usual run-of-the-mill white noise, but also because one can still hear the distinct Wolfsduister signature. The soundworks of Mark Bradley are deceptive. At first, they seem quite smooth and light, but on closer listening the songs reveal a subtle but commanding depth. Mark is a solo performer, portraying emotional states of being through his audio. It’s no coincidence that the title of this work is Solace. A little while ago, we released the Viktorianna / HäxenexäH split with archival recordings from 2006. Since then, both projects have been revived. The former is presented here and you will notice that the sound has changed considerably! The ambient sound has disappeared for a large portion and has been replaced by a somewhat industrial approach. A remarkable transformation! The song that Viktorianna presents here is inspired by the first World War. The guest vocals by Hekte Zaren aka. AmortE...

Zieltogend is from the Netherlands. That’s about all we can tell about him, for he wants to keep his identity a secret. The intention of Zieltogend is to create very minimal soundscapes. Droning, ambientesque, or whatever lies in between. Empty is the code-word. The Zieltogend method is simple: remix a track down to its bare-boned, minimal necessity. For this release, he deformed a track by Mystified: Earth from the Treetrunk release Audio Paintings. It’s presented here in two parts....

Originally, this was intended to be released on Norss Platen as CDR, but both artists felt that this music should be available to an audience as wide as possible. Hence this split net release. Machinesaw from Macedonia is a project consisting of complex raw music which tries to openly challenge the inability of the biological human mind to process any information. In other words, music for machines. Both band members have drawn their inspiration from other noise and metal musicians, Dadaist...

Zieltogend has an enduring fascination for the work of Mystified. He feels they are kindred spirits. Therefore, [empty] contacted Thomas about this new project: remixing Mystified material the Zieltogend way. Thomas readily gave the go-ahead. And Okkulth Records took it upon them to release the results. This is the fifth part. The method of action is quite simple. Zieltogend creates a remix of selected Mystified material from Treetrunk net releases only. This becomes the first side of the tape....

In the words of the Chav Stabber himself: 1. Liquor Hepatis "Considered the arcanum of the soul, Liquor Hepatis was prepared by distilling a solution of sulfur, lime, and sal ammoniac. The distillation for Liquor Hepatis produced a combination of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia gases. Since no solids precipitated, alchemists considered this an ascending reaction only. That was a significant fact to the Egyptians, who associated the Liquor with the soul." 2. Nigredo "In psychology,...

Can harsh noise and ambient go together? Well, for sure! Here is Ego Death from Greece. He has already proven to us to be as dark as dark can be. (Check his "For My Burial" track on the 2006 split with Ewe entitled "Voices Of The Undead": incredible stuff.) Here, he presents us an astronomical piece of work. Running over 72 minutes, this will snugly lodge into your brain. "Decapitation performance experimental."

The music of Zieltogend might be still, but [empty] himself never sits as such. Another project has sprang from his minimal mind. Turmoil is the ‘victim’ here. With kind permission of Tom, Zieltogend has taken on ‘Last Rites Of Amduscias’ for this release. The original release can be downloaded at: www.archive.org/details/AMR079. How does he do it? Simple. The first track is a remix of the original material, with the characteristic Zieltogend stamp: minimal, empty, inner-core, droning,...

A very dark welcome to the second collection of AmortE’s death chants! This time, we at Okkulth picked a bunch of tracks from the expansive poetic catalogue. AmortE hails from Poland and considers herself to be the demon of details, of mistakes, of hidden powers, regrets and sins. Demon of human’s false identity. AmortE records her chants at cemetaries, strongholds, haunted houses, closed churches, bunkers. It’s where she sings for them: the cursed and damned ones. AmortE sings for...

This fully improvised composition by Canada’s Moonlit Sun was recorded in real time in one continuous take on a dim evening, April 2008. Moonlit Sun uses hardware, custom instruments and natural objects only. On this release: butter knives, black sphere, iron tower, octagon tower grill, guitar multi-effects processors (8 second sampler), delay and distortion pedals, hardware compressor and 16 channel mixer. This plethora of, sometimes illustriously named, gear makes for an intriguing sound!...

Part 1 in the Morr series is here! This is an ongoing project: Norss is remixing, compiling and deforming tracks of a certain artist and offers his remix to someone close to him. In this case Zieltogend. In fact, this constitutes the latter’s first release! The mood is dark, as you would expect with Norss. Zieltogend is operating in the most minimal genre of minimal ambient and drone. Or otherwise, as he likes to say: Zieltogend equals emptiness. Very true. “EsoundnotrackMix”

In the past, both these artists have released work together, thereby also collaborating on a few tracks. Prime examples are the Norss Platen and Schaduw releases Nachtelijk Verbond and Nachtprofeten. However, both felt this was not enough. Hence Zielloze Verbintenis. Wolfsduister and Norss have again chosen to team up for a release, this time in a different shade of darkness. Both artists agreed on the concept of creating a track that is build up entirely of various works from the other,...

GAAD from Montenegro is probably best known for his (harsh) noise works. But with Nethermost on the Smell The Stench net label, he proved to be able to go a different path. It was this release that caught our ears and made us realize that GAAD should not go on without a catalogue number starting with Okk. And thus, we are pleased to announce Buried Reminiscence! The mood is dark, the style is largely dark ambient. However, be mindful of your ears when November comes up... “Dark ambient /...
